To promote academic success, your university is considering a new policy that would limit the number of hours per week that students can spend working at university jobs. Do you think this is a good idea? Explain why or why not.
Well, I cannot speak for everyone, but for me personally, I actually think it's a very good idea. If students spend too much time working at university jobs, this will seriously decrease their study efficiency, because everybody's time is limited, and if a student spends hours or even days on a part time job, this will squeeze their time on preparing for exams or preparing for projects. For example, when I was in university, one of my friends was a top student from my marketing course, however, he decided to take a part time job as a bartender on campus one day, and he had 4 shifts every week, which means that he needed to work for at least 32 hours per week, this seriously affected his study efficiency, I mean, he didn't even have time to go through the textbooks, so in the end, he didn't get the desired score that he wanted for that course.
From my own experience, I think the school's decision is pretty bad, and I have the perfect reason. Some students work part-time on campus, because they need to earn extra cash in order to survive. Not everybody comes from a wealthy family, some students even have to earn tuition fee on their own. For example, I have a friend from college, he was one of the top students in my class. What I know about him was that, he worked as a bartender in a bar on campus every night to earn minimum wages and tips, because, according to him, if he didn't do part time job, he wouldn't even have the money to buy food, let alone tuition fee or even room rent. So, if school really does that, it will disappoint some students.
20211113 Task1
Some people prefer to do sports alone, while some other people prefer team sports, which do you prefer and why?
I prefer to do sports alone, and my reasons are as follows. First, I don't want to be disturbed by other people when exercising, especially when my kind of sports require extra attention such as boxing or swimming. Without anybody to disturb me, I can work out at a higher speed. Another reason of mine is that, doing sports alone helps to clear my thoughts. I like to think a lot when I am running or boxing, if there are too many people around, me it's going to cloud my mind, hence, making it difficult to sort out the questions and thoughts in my head.
Well, if I were to choose, doing team sports would be the answer to this question. This is because, I love meeting new people, by participating in team sports such as basketball, soccer or badminton, I can always meet new players, and should I meet new players, it's going to be great opportunity for me to interact with them, even make friends with those who share the same interest as I do. Second reason is that, when one is doing team sports, it helps to train different abilities, such as the ability to deal with people, the capability to cooperate with your team members, or even the ability to lead. All these will turn you into a better person someday in the future.
20211114 Task1
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is always best to state your honest opinion, even when you know that others disagree.
I actually agree with such statement. It is always best to state your honest opinion, even when I know that other people would disagree. This is because being honest is very important. For example, if my friend asks me a question about my favorite food, I would not hesitate to tell him the truth, because to me, there is no need to be shady about something so small. Or, if my friend asks me on a serious societal issue, I would also give my most sincere response, because it helps to provide view from different angles, maybe he will think twice on how this problem should be solved.
Well, I cannot speak for everybody, but personally, I would disagree with such statement. I don't think it's a good idea to state my honest opinion all the time, especially when I know that other people would possibly disagree. This is because, sometimes we need to lookout for other people's feelings I don't want to hurt my friend’s self-esteem, I don't want to break her heart. For example, one day, I went shopping with my best friend and she spotted a dress. Next thing was that, she tried the dress on, and asked for my opinion. Well, the thing is, that dress looked like hell, and the details on the dress looked disturbing. But I chose to keep honest words from vomiting and kept silence instead. The reason was simple- I think she could buy whatever she likes and, who am I to judge another soul’s taste?

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Because of the increasing popularity of entertainment technology, fewer people are taking the time to read books for pleasure.
I agree with the following statement, people are spending less time to read books for pleasure, or, at least the number of people who would take the time to enjoy reading are decreasing, because nowadays we have other ways to entertain ourselves. For example, we have digital gadgets, portable devices or wearable devices that occupy our mind and our time. I could still remember the time as a little girl, I would spend hours and hours reading Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights until I couldn’t resist closing my close. However, with the development of modern-day technology, I became obsessed with playing video games and watching online videos, this proves that the statement is making sense.
I cannot speak for everybody, but I actually don't think people are taking less time to read books for pleasure, because although we have technological products that focus on entertaining, these kinds of devices also provide virtual platforms for people to read. For example, in the good old days, if I wanted to read a book, I would have to go to a bookstore, ask for the book from the salesperson inside the bookstore, and then buy the book, or, go to the library and borrow it, besides that, it would be hell of a burden for me to carry the book around because they're just huge and heavy. However, with the help of modern-day technology, we can read books online or in PDF format, which means, we get to read anywhere without carrying big chunks of books.
